What is Neighbourhood Watch?
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. The idea behind it is simple - getting together with your neighbours to take action and stop local crime and vandalism and to make your neighbourhood a safer place to live, work and play.

Everyone knows that the Police are there to fight crime, but they need our help to do an effective job. Neighbourhood Watch involves an active partnership with the Police and with our Local Council to provide immediate and accurate information upon which the Police will act rapidly.

Members of Neighbourhood Watch schemes are not vigilantes. Residents are not expected to expose themselves to any form of threat, danger or potential injury. Patrolling the streets and confronting offenders is a job for the Police.

However, by pooling our recourses and alerting the Police, Local Council and other residents of anything suspicious that you see or hear, each one of us will contribute towards the reduction of opportunities for crime to occur. The more difficult it can be made for the criminal, the more likely it is that crime can be reduced.

Neighbourhood Watch schemes can:
• Curb crime and reduce the opportunities for crime and vandalism.
• Protect our environment / animal & plant life / valley from vandalism and fire.
• Help and reassure those who live in the area.
• Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities.
• Create a safer and more pleasant place to live, work and play.

Neighbourhood Watch is not just about reducing burglaries - it’s about creating communities who care. It brings local people together and can make a real contribution to improving our lives. At the same time, you feel secure, knowing your neighbours are keeping an eye on your property and on our surrounding area.

Neighbourhood Watch is all about taking sensible precautions and ensuring a fast and appropriate response against potential crime. It reassures vulnerable members of our community that we are keeping a neighbourly eye out for them.

Everyone can do something that will really make a difference.
